Did you ever feel like the more information you take in, the more stuck you get? Or like the more you learn, the more numb you feel? Like you’re looking for change but it’s not showing up…
Well, you’re not alone!
In today’s world one thing we have an endless access to, is information! Of course this is a modern luxury which past humans would have envied us.
But it’s a double-edged sword that we must navigate wisely, otherwise it can keep us stuck and never truly progressing.
There’s a particular reason I’m writing about this today: In my healing practice, I meet so many women who are dealing with this!
They’re consuming endless YouTube videos, engaging in discussions in groups and forums, and constantly asking others for their opinions. And despite all this, they still feel stuck. Real change is not happening.
But there’s a paradoxically simple solution, and it’s NOT about finding more information. So, let’s explore:
The Trap of Information Overload
In our information-rich world, it’s easy to think that knowing more will solve our problems. I remember a time in my own journey when I was overwhelmed by all the spiritual and self-help content I consumed.
I felt like I was constantly searching for that next piece of wisdom that would magically transform my life. But despite all my efforts, I wasn’t experiencing the changes I desired.
I realized that I was stuck in a cycle of intellectualizing—thinking that understanding concepts was the same as living them. But real transformation requires embodiment, not just intellectual knowledge.
Otherwise, we end up in what’s known as “spiritual bypassing” – where we are on the surface TELLING ourselves that we are shifting and expanding our understanding, but it’s not reaching into our deeper psyche.
Remember, we humans are much more than our conscious minds, and information doesn’t usually reach down into our body consciousness, our unconscious and our energy bodies unless we specifically work to make it so.
Most information stays just that, facts and figures that don’t penetrate beyond our analytical minds. When really, it’s estimated that up to 98% of all our thought activity is UN-conscious! (See why more info can be a total waste of time unless we implement it in the right way?)
So, information is a wonderful, amazing thing and can help us and that has served our evolution as a species for thousands of years.
However, the ancients knew (better than us, we can say!) that information is not the end in itself. it’s about implementation.
This is why not anyone could teach others the Bible in past times, or why devotees had to go through rigorous training in religious practices to advance into deeper information and access to sacred methods.
In today’s world, there’s no limit on information since the internet, so we have to become our own guardians and be aware when information is actually benefitting us… And when it’s just causing overwhelm without the positive change we’re actually looking for!
So, let’s look at how to recognize if this is happening to you:
How to Know if You’re Stuck in Information Overload
Checklist:
- Constantly Seeking New Information: Are you always on the lookout for new videos, articles, or opinions, believing the next one will be the key to change?
- Feeling Overwhelmed or Stressed: Does the amount of information you’ve gathered leave you feeling anxious or paralyzed?
- Lack of Action: Do you find yourself consuming content but not taking concrete steps to apply what you’ve learned?
- Constantly Asking Others for Opinions: Are you frequently seeking advice from others instead of trusting your own intuition and insights?
- Comparing Yourself to Others: Are you often comparing your progress to others, feeling inadequate despite your knowledge?
- Avoiding Inner Work: Are you using information as a distraction from doing the deeper emotional and spiritual work needed for real change?
If you checked off several of these, you might be stuck in information overload.
The Path to Real Transformation
What’s the answer? Real transformation goes beyond simply acquiring knowledge. It involves embodying the insights and lessons learned, integrating them into our daily lives, and making them a part of who we are. It deals with not just skimming information expecting it to change things – it means understanding that allowing information to fully benefit us means to take it in deeper.
Did you ever notice reading something, and then realizing you hadn’t focused and actually hadn’t taken in any of it?!
To make information applicable and powerful, means moving from intellectual understanding to true embodiment—a process that involves presence, mindfulness, and action.
Steps to Move Beyond Information Overload:
- Slow Down: Take a break from consuming new information. Allow yourself to process what you’ve already learned. If you feel that you’ve rushed through something, read it again. It’s OK to read more than once. I have benefitted time and time again from reading books for the second or third time – you will experience the information on a deeper level.
- Practice Presence: Engage in mindfulness practices such as meditation or deep breathing to become more present with yourself and your emotions.
- Apply What You Know: Start integrating the knowledge you’ve acquired into your daily life. This might involve setting intentions, practicing self-care, or making small, actionable changes.
- Trust Your Intuition: Instead of constantly seeking external advice, begin trusting your own inner guidance and insights.
- Engage in Inner Work: Spend time reflecting on your beliefs, emotions, and experiences. This inner work is crucial for true transformation.
- Use Discernment: Sometimes, we are seeking information because we’re avoiding action. It CAN become a form of procrastination, that actually alienates us from tangible progress. So ask yourself, is this really necessary right now to find out? Is this really to my highest good? Or would it serve me better to slow down and look to embody change on a deeper level right now?
